Homemade Pea Soup

INGREDIENTS:
500g garden peas ( frozen)
1 large potato
1 pint veg stock
1 onion or leek
Salt and pepper

This recipe is so delicious and super simple. You can add ham to make this pea and ham soup... If doing so add 300g of ham cubed.
Place all the ingredients in a slow cooker or a pan on the hob. Once the potatoes are soft place all the contents of the pan into the blender and blitz!
Easy ... I like to add a bit of coriander once blitzed.

Enjoy

Making lego figure crayons

Most people with children find that they end up with a box full of broken crayons.... Well here's a great idea with a way to reuse those crayons.
Find a silicone mould ( it can be any design ) I've chose Lego as we are all Lego fans in our house.
Chop all the crayons up into smaller pieces and pop inside each shape. The crayons dont have to be the same  colour. It can be fun to have multicoloured crayons. Turn the oven to 140oc and pop the mould on a tray and into the oven.
Keep an eye on the crayons but about 10-15 minutes all the crayons will be melted.
Now very very carefully remove from the oven. Leave the crayon to set again. You can pop it into the freezer to speed up the process.
Once set pop the new crayon out of the mould, Ta dahh!!!
Please note the temperature on each mould as different moulds can take different heats. You really don't want the mould to melt !!

Have fun

Easy Peasy Chicken Pie

I wanted to share my recipe for easy peasy chicken pie... it looks far more complicated than it actually is...

In your slow cooker (you can do it in a pan if you don't have one)
add... a tin of chicken soup.
3 raw chicken breasts chopped into bite size chunks
a handful of peas
4 mushrooms sliced
and half an onion

Cook on high until the chicken is cooked in a slow cooker cook for about 3-4 hours keep check the sauce doesn't burn or stick you may need to add a small amount of water.

Once cooked put into a pie dish and use ready made puff pastry over the top of the chicken. Then use an egg to add an egg wash over the pastry. This will give you a nice golden colour when cooked.

pop in the oven for about 30 minutes at 200 oc. ..... done! I'm a veggie but my kids all eat meat and there are never any left overs with this. make potatoes or veggies to go with it

Enjoy!!

Beautiful Wooden Chair.

Todays project was this lovely wooden chair. The structure of the chair was sound and just needed some love put back into it.

After looking at various colours I decided to use Annie Sloan's louis Blue. Its a very soft blue grey.
the chair was lovely painted but I chose a pad and some beautiful fabric to cover the chair with making it very comfy to sit on.

The whole chair has been distressed and given a coat of matt varnish to protect it... I hope you agree the finished chair looks rather beautiful.

The chair is now for sale on my facebook page www.facebook.com/5littlejellykanes for £30.
Collection or local delivery available please contact me via fb or email kelly@thecupcakequeen.co.uk

Craft Mornings..... Busy Making!

Wednesday mornings after the rush of getting 5 children out of the house and to school on time, are spent with my sister.  We have a little craft morning and then I make something nice for lunch. It also means that I actually sit down and eat instead of rushing around like a crazy bird!!
So after opening a shop on Etsy 5 Little Jelly Kanes I have been busy making lots of cute jewellery and pom pom garlands. The shop has loads of little pieces now and is slowly getting fuller.
I really love vintage pieces and so a lot of my items have a vintage feel to them whether it be roses, buttons, or ribbons. I'm such a magpie that I collect wherever I go so this was a great way to do something creative with all my bits and pieces.

I've been busy making hair grips and brooches and also earrings... here's a few of the selection but please feel free to pop by the shop, and follow my page. I've tried to keep all the pieces at reasonable prices and they all come gift wrapped. They do make unique little gifts as they are all handmade.
I have also set up another fb page for all these and my painted furniture which is www.facebook.com/5littlejellykanes

My First Huge Project

After painting and up cycling a few small pieces of furniture I took the plunge and brought a huge solid piece which was a very unloved dresser. I fell in love with the shape and knew with a bit (or actually a lot as it turned out) of tlc I could restore this dresser to something beautiful.  I've been doing a lot of research on painted furniture and found the best paints in the WORLD are Annie Sloans. This piece is painted in Old White and its just stunning. I love the feel of the paint and love working with it.
The piece has taken 4 days to bring back to its finally beauty but I hope you'll think its worth it.
The middle panels are covered in a handmade rose paper and the dresser has been distressed and then a matt varnish to protect it.

The piece is now for sale and you can view it properly on my new facebook page which is 5 little jelly kanes
The name came from my bf who calls me Jelly Kane... Kelly Jane swapped. and 5 little ref to my 5 children.
The page has all my hand made gifts, furniture and also brought in items which are chosen carefully to match the rest of the items in the shop.
I have a huge job ahead of me still trying to sort out my website,as well as carry on with my cake making, up cycling and also being a full time mummy. Good Job I Love to be busy....
Anyway for now its late please feel free to like my page, leave comments and check out my etsy page.

My New Love For Up Cycling And Crafts

The end of last year was a tough one I ended up having an urgent hysterectomy (which all happened very quickly) and then my son had another operation. (he has cerebral palsy) Its taken us both a bit of time to get ourselves feeling normal again. So whilst recuperating I have been reading lots of books and coming up with all sorts of crafts and ideas to keep me occupied.
Hence I have opened an Etsy shop ( 5littlejellykanes ) with all my crafty trinkets I make. I love anything old and vintage and miss match.

I have also found a new love of rummaging through charity shops, vintage fairs, and second hand shops to find furniture that needs a new lease of life ... it started with a few bits I had in the house and then stumbled across an old school desk in a charity shop. The desk was really tired but I knew done up Max would love it. After sanding, repainting, and varnishing it the desk looked ace. I painted the lift up lid with chalk board paint and covered the inside with an old marvel comic I got off eBay for 73p!! It looks great in Max's room and he loves it!

I think I have the bug now I brought a lovely shelf and painted it a beautiful sage colour which was then distressed and varnished and put in my kitchen for all the trinkets... looks so gorgeous on my Cath Kidston wallpaper.

And then my final piece is the most dramatic change... I think when I brought this the man in the charity shop looked at me as if I was mad... he even knocked off £5 without asking! So my £10 cabinet was painted in a beautiful mustard paint and the middle panel has handmade paper glued and varnished ... it now sits really prettily in my hall.. and so useful too!

Well now I have the bug and also people asking me to decorate more so they can buy them off me....  I have just brought a huge dresser which I have fallen in love with. It needs a lot of work doing to it but I know it'll look beautiful after and I will try not to keep it.
Anyway that's next weeks project, in between looking after children, making cakes, and ohh my birthday!! Exciting
